'February 13, 2006: The Ironman Australia Triathlon begins a new era on April 2, 2006, in Port Macquarie, 100km north from the race’s former home in Forster-Tuncurry. The move has proven, after early controversy, the correct decision with over 1654 athletes entered into the race. It’s a pleasing result for IMG director of Triathlon, Dallas O’Brien who stated, “We believed this was the correct move to sustain the future of the race in Australia.
