let's channel some babes, shall we??
So, tomorrow is Honey B. Combe's big bad-ass debut! I'm so excited, and simultaneously nervous as all hell about shaking a tail feather in front of who knows how many friendly and/or unfamiliar faces. But in the end I think it will be a fantastic debut for Lindsey and me, and we plan on bringing nothing but our best vaudville-meets-chorus line-meets-ridiculous skit/shimmy-shimmy-shake down, seeing as we're part of a fund-raising event for a dear friend of mine, in hopes of reopening her co-op salon.
I figure the appropriate way to get my game face on for tomorrow night is to call upon some fabulously fine ladies of the past, channel some fluffy haired and calypso loving energy, in hopes of not wiggin' out on stage, leaving Miss Dolly Dagger(Lindsey), hanging out in her amazing costume with nothing but the dust my panic struck heels have kicked up and our ridiculous props. (tambourine action, anyone?!)
Alright ladies, I"m prepping my alter ego, miss Sugar Cane Jane, so put it on me..
The great and amazingly curvacious, Chaka Khan!

Lovely ladies of the Cotton Club Chorus Line (date unknown, but i presume the early 1940s..)

The Brown Sugar babe we know as Marsha Hunt!

And how could I not include one of my true idols, who I almost always pay homage to.........the Funktastic Betty Davis!

xoxo,
Sugar Cane Jane

can we bring back the halter?? please?! 40s, 50s & 70s!!
so, i'm really starting to feel like i'm the ONLY gal who wants to keep the classic halter and cropped beach tops alive! i think they look smoking hot on ANY gal, curvy, skinny, busty, petite, etc. and sadly, i don't feel like enough classic vintage collectors and/or lovers want or know how to sport these bad boys in any every day atmosphere.
well, damnit, it's finally getting warm, so let the girls come out and play!!
70s mania!

the first halter top is available for sale on etsy @ my shop, psychosurplus vintage.(check the link on the right)

this second awesome halter is available in niki's awesome vintage shop BombShellShocked Vintage on ebay. (for some reason my links aren't working properly, but you can get to her through the main BombShellShocked link at the top of my page)
and here's some summer inspiration for all you ladies who are getting antsy for summer time fun, like me...
and the best part is these styles LOVE your hair whether it's locked, twisted, big and fluffy, pinned-up, whatever the hell your flavor is!
halters, swimsuits, cropped tops and curvy, curvy waist lines!!!
(the following three photos are scanned in copies of vintage JET fashion spreads, found on flickr)

(the last swimsuit looks almost identical to this completely drool worthy late 50s leopard print swimsuit i just scored last week. hello bullet bra!)
and let's pay homage to the great and ever so foxy, Betty Davis! meowwwwwwwww!

right-o, i'm off for now!
xoxo,
erin
